enforcement officials seize at Hamburg art students
because of unpaid tuition Hamburg now sends the collection officials - even for indigent students
About 50 students of Hamburg's "College of Fine Arts (Fine Arts Hamburg) is before the seizure of their property. For the last Friday of the competent state funds led to the first students to freeze the bank accounts. Enforcement officials searched for the last 14 days repeat students in their homes, to collect outstanding fees.
The trigger for the enforcement procedure is initiated in the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts since 2007 at the ongoing boycott of the general student fees, to the still participates in more than a third of the student body. Without success, the university management of the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts in recent years had repeated itself tries to claim the outstanding fees. To get rid of the conflicting cases, the Academy of Fine Arts in late 2009, finally sent the data of the recalcitrant students to the full enforcement of the Hamburg office.
This will now operate across national boundaries. Even students whose income is far below the amounts exempt amount, are affected.
Maximilian Wonder (26), since his Academy of Fine Arts degree in Berlin for a job search and the time of the Hartz-IV-support dependent, is confirmed:
"I get almost every day visit by officials of the Tax Office in Berlin, here as extended arm of the Hamburg office of that State. Since last Friday, my account is locked, but anyway even though I had nothing. I do not know what I am now living will. At the same time I will not bow to this pressure, even in principle.
A college degree program for students is very expensive, many are in debt and then not just for artists, the job prospects are poor. Tuition Fees aggravate the still. But I think it is important that education is accessible to everyone is, regardless of parental income. "
To enforcement avert through official channels is affected students now have the opportunity to make a sworn statement that the cash Hamburg is to assure that no usable assets exist. Denying the students to pay and would issue an affidavit, provides the law more funds: the students can finally into a coercive detention of up to six months be taken in order to force a turn-in.
Whether it comes as far as is at present still uncertain. The Academy of Fine Arts students will continue to resist: "Tuition fees are fundamentally wrong and I would not think to support this unjust policy. I will fight with all means to prevent this. And so I'm not alone! "Says the art student Pauline Fall (23). Many of the students recall in this connection, the unkept campaign promise of the GAL to abolish tuition fees again, they demand that the black and green Hamburger government now follows the nationwide trend, and the charges themselves to restore, as the Saarland and Hessen have shown us. The speaker of the AStA of the University of Fine Arts, Tim Wolfer stresses this: "On one side of the Hamburg Senate campaigns for school reform to make the school system more equitable - and on the other hand, he carries the respect of the tuition fees system, the exclusion of underprivileged people of a higher education sent study, even the law enforcement officials. This is a paradox "
background of the charges boycott:
The students are committed to the boycott of general student fees for a toll-free studies, regardless of the financial capacity to be open to each and in which not only recovery-processing-oriented aspects of structure-are-provoking. They oppose tuition fees so that from a fundamental and also turn against the model "downstream tuition fees. This is to allow an interest-bearing deferred payment of fees until they enter the workforce. According to a study by the University Information Centre study deter many willing to back before a deferral request and taking a toll study, because they fear the high debt with ever more uncertain job prospects.
